In the year 2020, are commemorated 500 years since the expedition commanded by Fernando de Magallanes crossed the strait that currently bears his name, an adventure that became the first circumnavigation to the planet. Since then, the way of perceiving and thinking about the world, as well as the universe itself, changed. The Strait of Magellan was the final piece of a puzzle that was not yet complete, and whose resolution allowed a series of world processes to begin to operate: movement of people, trade routes, development of modern science, among others.

With this book – from Dr. Mauricio Onetto Pavez – we are interested in providing a different look at the commemoration of the journey, through an updated valuation of this milestone and an original interpretation – based on a scientific investigation – on some of the consequences He had to cross the Strait.
