Our country hosts the VII Congress of the Future, a science event that offers us a unique opportunity to interact locally with world-renowned personalities such as Terence Tao, award of the Fields Medal, considered the Nobel of mathematics; Zoltan Istvan, founder of the Transhumanist Party; Tim Jackson, eminent economist and sustainable development; and Alberto Kornblihtt, world-wide known for his contributions to Molecular Biology. There is no doubt that this is the biggest scientific communication event  in Chile and its organization in many cities such as Talca is especially important for our region.

In a moment when we are discussing the scarce budget allocated for research and when the Ministry of Science and Technology could see the light, it is essential to emphasize on the need of a greater link between our researchers and citizens in order to reverse the low social perception of the impact that their work has for our country. It is also quite important that this new ministry considers the communication of the sciences as a relevant item to be funded.

as we know that it is not enough to produce quality research if its social relevance is not communicated; our Center of Communication of the Sciences aspires, precisely, to be a contribution regarding this topic.

As Universidad Autónoma we are players of national scientific work through a strong support scheme for research in Santiago, Talca and Temuco. However, as we know that it is not enough to produce quality research if its social relevance is not communicated; our Science Communication Center aims, precisely, to be a contribution regarding this topic.

In this context we are involved in the organization of the Congress of the Future and we are proud that four of our researchers will be part of the event in Talca: Xaviera López, known by her work in the searching for biomarkers; Gino Corsini, recognized by his genetic studies on bacteria of medical importance; Roberto Moreno, protagonist in the field of sustainable tourism; and Rodrigo Quintanilla, who has an extensive experience in the area of neurodegenerative diseases.

Opportunities like this should make us to think on how our region takes advantage of the potential of our researchers work and what we are doing in order to make it closer to citizens daily life.
